Drawing Faces: Self-portrait

It can be helpful to have a mirror for this project so you can see your self.

Follow along with Mr. Deron, but following these basic steps:

  1. Start with making the head (oval or egg shaped). The head is usually taller than it is wide.

  2. Divide the face in half vertically and into three even sections horizontally.

  3. The nose goes on the bottom of the middle section right on the vertical dividing line.

  4. Eyebrows are on the top line of the middle section on either side of the vertical dividing line. Eyes are below the eyebrows and are about one eye away from each other from the inside of corner of one eye to the inside corner of the other eye. The inside corner of each eye usually lines up without the outside edge of the nostril.

  5. Ears are “C” shaped and stretch from the top of the middle section to the bottom of the middle section (top of the eyes to the bottom of the nose).

  6. The bottom edge of the mouth is half the distance between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin (or halfway up the bottom section of the face). Corners of the mouth line up with the middle of each pupil.

  7. Don’t forget details like hair, neck, eyelashes and creases.
